Askavusa: Barefoot On The Border /

Askavusa - barefoot in Sicilian - is a collective based in Lampedusa that since 2009 has been supporting the migrant struggle and heavily criticised the border militarization, which is very visible on the island. Over the years, the collective has provided food, clothes and supported the protests of the migrants kept in captivity in the detention centre located on the island.

Some of these photographs were taken in the evenings: after a long day work at the harbour monitoring the military dealing with the migrants or a migrants'protest these activists supported. You may read more in my article published on The New Internationalist (September 2011), Askavusa Fortress Europe's Achilles Heel.

Thanks to: Annalisa, Gianluca, Giacomo, Francescona, Pasqualone, Daniela, Alessia, Pier and all those beautiful people who support the migrant struggle in the world.
